Hear from researchers Amanda Jorgensen and Dr. Robyne Davidson
Amanda Jorgensen is the Insect Management Specialist for Alberta Agriculture and Irrigation. Amanda and Shelley Barkley run the Alberta Insect Monitoring Network, which carries out surveys for major insect pests in Alberta field crops. While Amanda is new to the role with Alberta Agriculture, previously Amanda worked researching insect pest management with Agriculture and Agri-food Canada for over ten years. Amanda completed a M.Sc. from the University of Alberta that validated monitoring tools and improved forecast models for wheat midge in the Peace River region. Generating and sharing high quality insect pest population forecasts, survey results, and sharing information about pest and beneficial insects is the focus of Amanda’s work.
Robyne Davidson is the Pulse and Special Crops Research Scientist with Lakeland College based in Lacombe, Alberta. She has many years of experience in the agricultural industry conducting research trials on a wide variety of field crops within government, academia, and the private sector. She has been working with pulse crops for over 20 years leading and conducting pulse research trials across Alberta and western Canada. She has been heavily involved in the introduction of new pulse crops, the sustainability of current pulse management strategies and the expansion of pulse crops across the prairies. She enjoys the extension piece of her research role and highly values the work she does with industry and farmers to support and grow the industry. She and her husband operate a 4000-acre grain farm near Red Deer, Alberta.
